Through its ground breaking research, teaching and skills development, Ulster University is proud to contribute to Derry’s reputation as a Hub for data-driven Innovation and Health and Social Care:
- We are home to Northern Ireland’s only Paramedic Degree Course.
- In September 2021, we opened the School of Medicine to train the future Doctors of the North West.
- We are the first University in Ireland and the UK to offer an undergraduate degree course in Stratified Medicine.

The University’s research centres, (funded in partnership with WHSCT and DCSDC), at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry are undertaking some of the most exciting and advanced research in personalised medicine globally.
Ulster University’s new research partnership project “Atlantic Futures” brings together expertise from Atlantic Technological University, Ulster University , University of Galway and University of Limerick. With a thematic focus on innovation in regional context, empowering women and young people and the technological and infrastructural opportunities and challenges faced by innovation, the collaboration aims to become established as an internationally recognised centre of excellence for impactful research.
Other flagship City Deal Innovation projects will take Artificial Intelligence and Analytics research to the next level and explore real-life, practical uses. A research and innovation factory for local and international industry will be home to a Digital Demonstrator Hub and an ideas factory for R&D for new enterprises. This factory of the future will inspire a new generation of digitally skilled experts. A state-of-the-art facility, combined with ground-breaking research and industry collaboration in AI, automation, robotics, and diagnostics gives the city of Derry, and wider region a real opportunity to position itself as a global leader in future and emerging technologies – and to then harness all the benefits which can come with this.
